Find usThe Cavendish Laboratory is situated to the west of the city. Try these interactive maps:
Whichever way you arrive, report to Reception (at the front of the Bragg building), to contact the person you are visiting. Click on the map below to go to an interactive version with photogallery. Reception and Optoelectronics buildings are highlighted in red.
By RoadOn Madingley Road - where the road splits - look for J.J. Thomson Avenue where a sign says "University West Cambridge Site". The Cavendish Laboratory is at the far end. Note that the motorway M11 Junction 13 has access only to or from the south.By TrainTrains run frequently from both King's Cross and Liverpool Street stations in London - see timetable, or go directly to National Rail Enquiries.Cambridge station is over two miles from the Cavendish - we usually recommend a taxi. Some people prefer to travel from Gatwick or Heathrow airports by train. This involves travelling across central London on the "tube". Note that Sunday is often used for maintenance on UK railways. Allow extra time for "Special Services". By AirAll of the London International Airports are served by regular National Express buses to Cambridge. Stansted is the nearest and Luton is less well known. There is also a direct train service between Cambridge Station and Stansted.Cambridge Airport has no scheduled services. By BusThe frequent (Monday to Friday) Uni 4 service links many of the University Departments.Members of the University can travel at reduced fare on production of a University Card. The Cambourne bus Citi 4 serves the West Cambridge site and travels to Downing Street, close to the bus station. (Bus timetables and maps >>) It is now possible to see where buses are in real time (but note that the nearest bus stop is actually a little closer than implied: into Cambridge) On Foot
From the bus station it is a brisk 45 minute (2.5 miles / 4 km) walk to the Cavendish, if you know where you are going (via Burrell's Walk, Adam's Road and the Coton footpath - see map), or you can take a taxi. |
